#resist
Video works by German and international media artists on civil movements
Resistance, civil disobedience or even revolution as active, professed refusal exist throughout human history. But they also lead to a dilemma: in a particular society, when should its people reserve the right to revolt against the established order? What are the effective means of restraining a tyrant? Who knows the best course of action for a particular society – the people or the sovereign/ government? Does the right of revolution result in chaos and instability? To what extent should this so-called right to be exacted? Co-presented by Microwave International New Media Arts Festival 2017 and Goethe-Institut Hongkong, #resist is a satellite exhibition (the Project Room) of the Festival that brings together a selection of significant works to explore and experiment, and to tackle the controversial dilemma of the right of revolution. The exhibition at the Goethe-Gallery does not aim to provide an absolute answer to the topic, but rather to start a conversation on how citizens could execute their rights while contributing to a better future of its society. At the opening on 6 Oct, Olaf Stüber will be present and introduce the artworks in person.
